Mashle: Magic and Muscles is a Japanese anime series based on the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Hajime Koumoto with the anime adaptation animated by A-1 Pictures. The first season of the series aired from April 8, 2023 to July 1, 2023 on Tokyo MX in Japan (and streaming on Crunchyroll). The second season titled Mashle: The Divine Visionary Candidate Exam Arc aired from January 6, 2024 to March 30, 2024. A third season was announced in May 2024 and is currently in production.[1]

Aniplex of America licensed the series and hired Bang Zoom! Entertainment to produce an English dub of the series that would make its way to Adult Swim's Toonami programming block starting with the first season airing from November 9, 2024 to February 15, 2025.[2] The second season began airing on November 8, 2025.[3]

Plot[]

The show centers around a boy named Mash Burnedead, born without magical powers in a world where magic defined social status. After an incident where Mash was discovered to have no magic powers, he had no choice but to enroll in a magic school where he has to beat the competition without revealing his secret - he can't use magic!

Main Characters[]

Mash Burnedead - The main protagonist of the series who was abandoned as a child due to lacking a magic mark which means he can't use magic. He was adopted and raised by Regro Burnedead who hid Mash from society teaching him self-defense. After being discovered that he doesn't possess magic abilities, he enrolls at Easton Magic Academy where he has to hide his secrets by relying on muscle power.

Finn Ames - A first-year student of Easton Magic Academy who is a roommate of Mash Burnedead and the younger brother of Rayne Ames.

Lemon Irvine - A first-year student of Easton Magic Academy who is a nice person that tends to get scared very easily, leading to her exaggerating in the conversation she has with others.

Lance Crown - A first-year student of Easton Magic Academy who is very protective of people who were being mistreated. He cares about his sister, Anna Crown where he vows to become a Divine Visionary to save her from being taken by the Bureau of Magic.

Dot Barrett - A first-year student of Easton Magic Academy who has a hot-blooded and obnoxious personality. Even though he acts as if he is the main character, he is a nice person who apologizes if he's wrong about something.

Broadcast History[]

Season one of Mashle: Magic and Muscles premiered in Japan on Tokyo MX and other networks from April 8, 2023 to July 1, 2023. The second season, titled Mashle: The Divine Visionary Candidate Exam arc aired from January 6, 2024 to March 30, 2024. A third season was announced in May 2024 and is currently in production. Aniplex of America licensed the series in North America and hired Bang Zoom! Entertainment for the production of the English dub which first streamed on Crunchyroll starting May 26, 2023.[4] Season one later aired on Adult Swim's Toonami block from November 9, 2024 to February 15, 2025. Season two made its premiere on November 8, 2025.

Toonami Broadcast History[]

Aniplex announced during their New York Comic Con 2024 panel on October 18, 2024 that Mashle: Magic and Muscles would premiere on the block starting November 9, 2024 at 12:30 AM, replacing an extra airing of Invincible Fight Girl. A marathon for the first 6 episodes aired on December 21, 2024, running from 1:00 AM to 4:00 AM. After being pre-empted for the next two weeks by marathons of Rick and Morty: The Anime and Uzumaki, the series returned on January 11, 2025 airing at 12:00 AM, swapping timeslots with reruns of Invincible Fight Girl. After the first season completed its run on February 15, 2025, it was subsequently removed from the lineup and replaced by reruns of FLCL: Grunge the following week.

Approximately nine months after the first season ended its run on the block, the second season of Magic and Muscles premiered at 1:00 AM on November 8, 2025, replacing an airing of Blue Exorcist.
