Midnight Run: Special Edition was a special hour long Midnight Run music video marathon that first aired on August 31, 2001. An encore presentation of the Special Edition was also aired later in the year on November 16, 2001.
The special notably featured the world premiere of the Daft Punk animated video, "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger," the fourth single from Daft Punk's Discovery album. All the music videos from Discovery are produced by Anime legend Leiji Matsumoto and, when put together, form a musical feature length movie titled Interstella 5555. Daft Punk's first three videos from Discovery, "One More Time", "Aerodynamic", and "Digital Love", also aired during the Special Edition broadcast.
In addition, the special included a video by Kenna, three Gorillaz videos (“Clint Eastwood,” “19-2000” and “Tomorrow Comes Today”) and two Toonami music videos from tracks off of Toonami: Deep Space Bass, including “Mad Rhetoric” and “Dreams.”
