SSSS.Gridman is a Japanese anime series, adapted from the 1993–1994 tokusatsu series Denkou Choujin Gridman. The series is a co-production between Tsuburaya Productions and Trigger. The series is directed by Akira Amemiya, written by Keiichi Hasegawa, and animated by Trigger, with music by Shirō Sagisu. Masayuki Gotou designed Gridman with Masaru Sakamoto handling the other character designs. The "SSSS" in the title stands for "Special Signature to Save a Soul" as revealed in the final episode. The series aired in Japan from October 6, 2018 to December 22, 2018.[1]

Funimation licensed the series for streaming on FunimationNow and created an English dub in 2018. The series was also simulcast by Crunchyroll. The English dub of SSSS.Gridman aired on Adult Swim's Toonami programming block from January 16, 2021 to April 3, 2021 at 2:30 AM.[1]

Plot[]

Yuta Hibiki awakens with amnesia and the ability see things that others cannot. He first encounters a Gridman in the reflection of his friend Rikka Takarada's computer and it tells him to "Remember his calling," but Yuta doesn't understand what this means. Later, in the distance, he sees an extremely large monster but it doesn't move. It's only when Yuta gets to school that the two sightings make sense: a monster attacks and the hero Yuta saw in the computer screen pulls him within the computer and transforms Yuta into a giant hero named Gridman.
